We were up and headed to "The Store" in Anacortes for croissants (Lynn's was almond) and a capuccino and a latte. It wasn't quite Paris but it was still good. Then we stopped at Safeway for a final ice load and a few provisions and off on our longest haul of the week (5+ hours). It was foggy and hazy but we hoped it would clear as we got going so we went with the outgoing Guemes Channel tide around 10:00 a.m. We couldn't see across the channel but we used our charting app and kept a good watch. It still wasn't clear by the end of the Guemes Channel so we pointed northward towards Cypress Island to shorten the hops across more open water and to avoid ferry traffic. Then we remembered the AIS app on my phone so we fired that up to see any traffic around us. It helped us feel a bit more secure as we don't have radar. By the time we hit Thatcher Pass the fog began lifting and once inside the islands it was good. Onward towards West Sound we went. We arrived at the Orcas Island Yacht Club dock looking for reciprocal moorage only to find two large boats already tied up. And the old "T" dock was replaced with a new but only straight dock so there was less usable space overall. Fortunately, there was just enough room in front of the 70' boat for our tiny sailboat. We used the afternoon to give the boat a scrub, clean out the raw water strainer, replace an old dinghy painter and some general stowing and cleaning. Then off to West Sound Cafe for dinner. We sat outside on the deck of the Cafe, ate sesame oil edamame, tomatoes and buratta cheese, beest and goat cheese, roasted brussel sprouts and butternut squash and a dish of crab, tomato and spaghetti. We love this place! After a shower at the yacht club facilities it was back to the boat for wine, chocolate and some cards. And Benadryl for Abby as the smoke was bothering her a bit. Then some Kindle reading and time for sleep to make our 7:00 a.m. departure the next morning. |
